XIDyn Collaborators
In February, Technology staff travelled to the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in Grenoble to collaborate on the new detector technology, XIDyn​.

XIDyn (DynamiX and XIDer) is being developed for diffraction-limited storage ring synchrotrons by a collaboration between STFC, Diamond Light Source, the ESRF, the University of Heidelberg, and EuXFEL. The detector will have to operate at 100 times higher flux and 2-5 times higher energies than the current state-of-the-art detectors. XIDyn will also operate at a more than 100kHz frame rate with MHz burst mode capture to enable in-situ, high throughput and time-resolved science at facilities like Diamond II.​

​At the meeting, the collaborating facilities presented the detector needs and the science that would be unlocked with the new XIDyn detector. Attendees also discussed a range of work packages including ASIC design, detector material characterisation, readout systems, assembly,​ and tiling.

The team will be working together to build and test this leading-edge technology which is crucial to delivering the science of fourth-generation synchrotrons.
