HiZPAD attendees
Members of our Detector Development team travelled to Hamburg in September to attend the first in-person HiZPAD workshop since 2019. The HiZPAD network, formed in 2011, combines the expertise of staff members from across STFC, the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF), and the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) to collaborate and promote discussion surrounding high-Z developments.

The two-day workshop involved a series of presentations (both in-person and virtual), a poster session, and a capability showcase, allowing attendees from across academia, research, and industry to discuss the latest results from novel semiconductor materials and how the community will deliver the next generation of detector systems.

Presentations by Technology staff members included:

Matt Veale, a member of our Detector Development Group and one of the workshop's organisers, said:

"The academics I met through the HiZPAD project helped me establish a network of contacts across Europe early in my career. Contacts like Dominic [PSI] and Marie [ESRF] have been invaluable through the years helping me make sense of my own research and, together, coming up with new ideas that have helped drive the field forward. My hope was always that this week's HiZPAD Workshop would help nourish these existing links but also help those newer members of the community establish networks of their own. Having seen the fantastic level of engagement between participants old and new I'm confident we achieved this!"
