We provide a range of services to support the manufacturing needs of and deliver the science for Technology and the many other departments within STFC. This effort, in turn, supports our global research partners.

​The skills and expertise within our group of technical experts include:

A fixture manufactured and assembled for use in 
positioning bearings on a larger piece of hardware.
  • Conventional and multi-axis Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) machining

  • Electro Discharge Machining (EDM)

  • Sheet metal fabrication and coded welding

  • Dimensional metrology utilising both contact and optical Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) traceable to national standards

  • Design for manufacture support in the application and use of geometrical tolerancing

  • Additive manufacture using both Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) and Polyjet 3D printing processes

  • Mechanical assembly build

  • Procurement of mechanical components via a contracted external supplier base

  • Bespoke mechanical build of neutron detectors​​
