(L-R) Daniel, Diana and Simon at the conference
In July, three members of our Detector and Electronics Division, Diana Caprotti, Simon Knowles, and Daniel Brown, travelled to Bratislava to present their work at IWoRID 2025 – in a session dedicated entirely to STFC-developed detectors.

IWoRID brings together experts in radiation imaging detectors, and it was an honour to showcase technology developed by our department in a spotlight session.

Our team’s presentations included:

Simon, a graduate in our Detector Development Group, shared his experience at the conference:

“Our presentations at IWoRID were a great opportunity to showcase the department’s successes and expertise to the wider detector community. With a whole session dedicated to just Technology detectors, we were able to show the breadth of our capabilities across multiple projects, spanning everything from ASIC and CMOS design to DAQ systems to results from real-world usage of our detector systems.

"The conference was also an excellent opportunity for early-career staff to develop their presentation skills and gain confidence in networking and discussing their work with others"

Daniel, a member of our CMOS Sensor Design Group, added:

“As a graduate, it was a great opportunity to attend my first conference and present C100. The knowledge gained over the week, both from the talks and from chats with other attendees over coffee, will help me grow as an engineer. Presenting C100 to a room of 200 people was a challenge, but it was rewarded by the interest people had in the technology, and shows the only way to know whether you can do something is to give it a go.”
